Operation Warm
On Monday, Jan. 9, 2023, members of the Minneapolis Fire Department gifted Nay Ah Shing Students with warm coats donated by the MFD through Operation Warm and Minneapolis Coats for Kids. Miigwech to Justin Johnson, MFD and Band member Paul Sam, a Chief Firefighter with MFD for helping the kids stay warm this winter.
Cultural Resources Smoking Tullibees
The Cultural Resources division of the Department of Natural Resources provides an education piece and opportunities for Band members to exercise inherent treaty rights of harvesting. Todd Moilanen and his crew share their knowledge with Band members including Nay Ah Shing students to ensure future generations will carry on the traditions of harvesting.

Native American Heritage Month Celebration
Grand Casino Mille Lacs opened the doors to celebrate Native American Heritage Month on Sunday, November 13, 2022, showcasing Native American artists and vendors along with a Hand Drum Contest, Sidestep Specials Contest & of course food! The event was open to the public and hosted by District I Representative Virgil Wind and the Band Member Development Team of Grand Casinos.

FIRE PREVENTION AND SAFETY DAY AT NAS
Wednesday, October 19, was Fire Prevention and Safety Day for students at Abinoojiiyag and Mille Lacs Early Education. The Garrison Fire Department started out the morning with the MLEE students before going over to Abinoojiiyag. Each class had an opportunity to learn from various agencies from the area.

Spirit Island, the small rock-made island in the southwest region of Mille Lacs Lake, consists of weathered and eroded pink and white granite boulders. Pine Grove Safety and Preparedness Day
Students at Pine Grove participated in Safety and Preparedness Day to learn how to keep their family and friends safe with hands-on presentations by the Danburry Fire Department, Essenta Health EMS, East Central Energy, Mille Lacs Band DNR Wildfire Crew, and the US Park Service.
Cinderella
21st Century Learning Centers with Prairie Fire Children’s Theatre worked with a group of Mille Lacs Community students for one week to learn the script and rehearse for the play, “Cinderella.” The students rehearsed all week to perform on Saturday, July 9, 2022, at the Chiminising Community Center. The cast included Keira Gray as Cinderella, Alisha Karst as Rona (step sister), Taliya Hansen as Zona, Rose Never as Dinah, Olivia Gray as Click Dark, Kylee Miner as King/Queen cash, Jayden Nelson as The assistant, Elsa Gray as Mikey, Avery Nayquonabe as the Mistake, Maddie and Reece Moore as the Mice.
